The art above is the work of an anonymous individual named “Banksy”. Every piece of work the artist has created is thought provoking. This particular one stuck out to me because of the scripture reference below that has been working on me the last few months. Banksy is probably making a major political and social statement here, but it applies to every area of a person’s life who has similar desires. Keep your coins, I WANT CHANGE!
Romans 12:1-2 NLT – “1And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind He will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship Him. 2Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.”
Just finished the REAL CHANGE series at the church where I pastor. I believe the Church needs to undergo a REAL CHANGE. No, the TRUTH of God’s Word does not change. The change I am referring to is found in Romans 12. The writer gives us the key to getting the necessary transformation God wants to bring to all of us. The Church needs a change of mindset. We cannot continue to do life and church the same way we have always done it. We need to change so we can be effective for the Kingdom of God.
- There is no growth without challenge; and there is no challenge without change.
- You cannot experience a new level with an old mindset. The old mindset doesn’t believe it needs to change.
I believe that too many have tried to prove God’s will to others by their actions (or works). This is the way the world behaves and looks for acceptance. The writings of Romans challenges us “…don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world…” Your spiritual status should NOT be based upon proving yourself to others. The burden of proof is for yourself and for the God you are serving. If you have the proof of His presence in your life, you will NOT have to try to prove to others that the will of God has been enacted in you. My life isn’t lived for others’ approval. Your purpose should not be to prove yourself to others. I believe your purpose should be to perfect your relationship with God.
TRUE CHANGE in our lives comes only one way. No matter what it is in life that you need changed, you cannot get the desired NEW-ness of change if you are stuck in an OLD mentality. You must change your mindset. As Paul reveals “…let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think…”
Thank you very much, but you can keep your coins. I need transformation. I want change!
